How to tell if your Board is Epoxy or Polyester

How can you tell epoxy surfboards from regular surfboards?, To start with look at the manufacturers logos, most board builders will put the word epoxy on most or at least one of these, so READ them all first, if you find the word epoxy on any of these than it is an epoxy... as for the not so reputable boards, it can be virtually impossible for most surfers to detect an epoxy/EPS built board, and the main problem would come if you were to try and fix a ding on one of these and you get major foam meltdown as the EPS foam and polyester resin do not go together at all.

Another way to check is EPS can have a texture to it, so look for small veins or round looking beads under the glass, as for the Dow brand foam, which does not have a "bead" structure to it, look for breather holes in a symmetrical pattern down the deck rails.

I have also found that if you sand a little bit of the glass on your board and smell it -polyesters are very smelly epoxy products don't smell.
